BMO Capital Markets, the U.S. based investment and corporate banking practice of BMO Financial Group (NYSE: BMO), is an integrated full-service mid-market investment bank. We offer corporate and institutional clients a complete range of financial services, including financial advisory and capital raising services, mergers and acquisitions and equity research, sales and trading services.

The Associate is responsible for providing global industry coverage, coordinating with global Metals & Mining RMs and efficiently developing pitches for client capital markets opportunities and performing detailed financial modeling and analysis. The Associate will conduct continuous monitoring of industry events, client activity and performance in a proactive and independent manner. As part of an ongoing team approach to best serve and manage client portfolios, the Associate will be accountable for identifying and recommending related ancillary investment and corporate banking products to clients and supporting the coverage efforts of the global franchise as needed. Associates coach and mentor analysts in pitch development and financial analysis.

ACCOUNTABILITIES
A. Business Development and Client Relationship Management
• Provide industry coverage support and develop industry-related presentations and pitch material.
• Create pitch books for clients with respect to financial solutions and participate in their presentation to clients.
• Monitor client, industry and regulatory agencies for potential changes which may affect client’s portfolio and business needs.
• Assist with managing a diverse portfolio of companies with progression toward increasing coverage and client responsibility.
• Review and continually monitor performance of existing accounts and client relationships.
• Conduct due diligence that includes client visits, analysis of business models, and comprehensive review of industry trends and related regulations.
• Identify new areas of investment/ banking opportunities to diversify client portfolios.

B. Financial Modeling and Analysis
• Create financial models for use in analyzing client portfolios and to best anticipate client needs.
• Utilize financial analysis to proactively identify opportunities to cross-sell.
• Generate updated financial models/ analyses as business needs and industry requirements dictate.
• Analyze/ assess industry compilations.

C. Partnership Efforts
• Work with global Metals & Mining Coverage partners and product partners with respect to industry coverage.
• Initiate contact with partnered Investment Banking Group areas for new client sales.
• Participate in deal teams to develop, present and win mandates for new opportunities.
• Partner with deal team and product specialists staff for accurate, detailed client information.
• Coach and mentor individuals in the Analyst role.


SCOPE AND IMPACT

This role has direct or in-direct impact on the following:

The work product directly impacts the growth initiatives within the Business Unit, client portfolios and any transaction for which the Associate is involved.

The Associate contributes to the team through delivery of strategic recommendations to clients. As a team member, the Associate interacts with CEO/ CFO’s companies, Executive and Senior Management across BMO and BMO Capital Markets, and all strategic product areas in developing the most appropriate pitches to clients and winning new mandates. These efforts have significant financial implications to clients and to the Business Unit as well as the overall growth of the business.


JOB REQUIREMENTS


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

a) Knowledge:
• An undergraduate degree with academic coursework in finance, economics, or accounting and an outstanding academic achievement.
• MBA degree preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of investment banking or valuation experience at a financial analyst level.
• Knowledge of capital markets, investment banking products and applicable regulations.
• Credit analysis experience/ understanding.
• Good knowledge of the organizational lending and portfolio management policies and objectives.

b)Skills:
• Exceptional skills in quantitative analytics, financial modeling and credit analysis skills.
• Highly developed written and oral communication skills.
• Expertise in financial computer applications and database management tools including MS Excel. Strong proficiency in other Microsoft Office products and the Internet.
• Strong interpersonal skills used within a demanding team environment and in client interaction.
• Ability to work under limited supervision.
• Ability to learn and adapt quickly.
• Ability to review, assess, and provide detailed information daily.
• Excellent capability to independently and proactively service multiple clients.
