Responsibilities:
The Associate Counsel- Energy & Mining is responsible for performing consultation and advisory, as well as ensuring the legal processes necessary to affect the rights, privileges and obligations of the organization, primarily for the Company’s Energy & Mining Segment.

In this role, the successful candidate will have the following responsibilities:

•Prepares and reviews various legal instruments and documents, such as contracts, leases, licenses, purchases, sales, etc.
•Where appropriate to protect the Company, suggests alternative provisions in the contracts or subcontracts. Negotiate with the other party to craft provisions that are acceptable to both the other party and the Company.
•Examines legal data to determine advisability of defending or prosecuting lawsuits, bond claims or liens.
•Oversees outside attorneys who defend or prosecute any lawsuits, claims, mediations or arbitrations involving the operations of Energy & Mining for which the Associate Counsel has primary responsibility.
•Oversees and manages the budget for outside attorneys and expert witnesses for all matters involving the operations of Energy & Mining for which the Associate Counsel has primary responsibility.
•Gathers evidence and information for support for management decision making, including the General Counsel-Energy & Mining, the Senior Vice President of Energy & Mining and all Senior Management
•Advises Senior Managers on government regulations and/or legal rights.
•Represents Company before quasi-judicial, judicial and/or government administrative agencies.


Qualifications:
This position requires a Juris Doctorate and admission to the Missouri bar. Additionally, a minimum of 6 years of legal experience is required for this position. Commercial law experience is required. A minimum of three (3) years experience in the energy or construction industry would be highly desired, although not necessarily a requirement. Up to 35% travel is required. EOE M/F/D/V
